More & more coffee plantations are finding it difficult to keep up with the growing demand. On the other side, the waste that is created by the coffee industry every year is enormous and deserves a big cut of the world-polluters-pie.
It wasn't until a couple of years ago that cafes actually started to take responsibility and swapped their non-recyclable coffee cups with the biodegradable BioCup by BioPak. With the launch of a new coffee packaging line Convex Australia, a Sydney-based company, has taken it even one step further. Specifically developed to meet the increasing demand for renewable coffee packaging - Econic bio-degradable coffee bags provide the ideal sealing and barrier properties for coffee beans. Believed to be the first packaging of its kind in the world, Econic coffee bags are made from three separate bio-degradable films, which are laminated together to provide a high level of functionality at a competitive price point. David Lee-Schneider, owner of Cherubini Espresso Bar in Sydney’s Darlinghurst was among the first business owners to give up their plastic packaging for Econic bio-degradable coffee bags: “We believe that even as a small business we can make a difference. We have been getting some great feedback from our customers since we have started using compostable coffee cups. Our coffee is 100% organic and Rainforest Alliance certified. We have just been waiting for a product like the Econic coffee bags to use for our packaging needs. Being able to tell your customers that they can bury the bags in their backyard after use is not just a fun thing to say but also a great selling point.” Let's face it. Packaging pollutes. However rather than accepting this fact, let us use it to inspire us to find new ways and choose products using innovative packaging solutions that do not harm our planet. |

Organic coffee and compostable coffee cups have become a big thing in recent years. Coffee sales are going up year for year and the 'nectar of the gods' is now even taking tea nations China and Japan by storm.
